We have a new forever home for Catalyst!
It’s glorious – 5 Munro St Coburg. Solid bones with heaps of room, right in the heart of Coburg, we couldn’t be more excited. We get the keys on Jan 15 2026.
Over the next couple of months we will be busy planning for a fit-out and organising a place of assembly permit (so we can host big events again). We can’t say when it’ll be ready to launch, but the more hands and resources we have the faster we’ll get it done – more on that in a sec.
*Until Munro St is opened Catalyst will still be operating in a limited form from 144 Sydney Rd Coburg.*
What’s The Deal
When we got in touch earlier in the year, we shared our plan to buy a property, facilitated by a generous loan from some benefactors. The plan was to stay at 144 and 146 for another year while we built the financial capability to take on a 30-year mortgage.
Then we lost 146 and the benefactors offered us another pathway: we pick a building that would work for us, they buy it, and lease it to the Federation at a rate we can afford, for as long as we want. This is how we’ve landed 5 Munro St, and how we have the security to invest and put down roots.
What is needed
Our total expenses at the new building will remain similar to what they’ve been, which is about $5.5k/month. Our current stable income is $3.8k/month. While our subscriber base has grown a lot this past year, we are still relying on one-off donations to get us across the line each month, and the fit-out of Munro St will cost a decent amount of money.
If you’re able to become a subscriber, or chuck in some extra money, now would be a great time: catalystcentre.net/subscribe/
Catalyst will also need your energy, skills and ideas! We have the opportunity to envisage and realise our wildest dreams for a radical community space – the more of you involved the wilder the dreams, and the more hands to build them.
Over the coming months we’ll need help with the fit-out, sourcing and transporting materials, cooking for meetings, designing graphics, and a million other things. If you’re not in a Federation collective, email hello@catalystcentre.net to get involved.
Love and solidarity,
The Catalyst Federation
